Antenna Inline Masthead Amplifier kit - ILAK
The most cost effective, easy solution to maximise ADS-B surveillance range is with a masthead amplifier system.
A masthead amplifier close to the antenna boosts the weak ADS-B signal received by the antenna, before the ingress of much noise from the connecting cable. This will more than offset the significant signal losses of an antenna extension cable, so that reception range can be increased dramatically.
DC power for amplifier is fed from the power injector at the bottom end of the antenna extension cable, via the co-ax extension cable itself to the amplifier at the top end of the extension cable. No separate power cable required. Amplifier power supply to be kept in a cool environment
Antenna connection to amplifier with DC blocker fitted can be either BNC plug or F-type plug. For different types of antenna plugs, eg N-type, MCX - see our comprehensive range of co-ax adapters on our Prices & Ordering  page.
Kit does NOT include extension cable . Connections supplied can take either F-type or BNC plugs on extension cable. Various stock extension cables are available from us - see Prices & Ordering  page.
DC blocker connects from amplifier to antenna cable, using a BNC-female/f type-male adapter, supplied. (This is to prevent the antenna element from being at 12 volt DC active and destroying the power supply if antenna element accidentally comes in contact with earth.)
A suggested option would be to retain the supplied antenna for portable use, and obtain a separate higher gain accessory antenna for a permanent, fixed or external installation.
Amplifier kit, ILAK, includes amplifier, power injector with 240 volt power supply (Australian plug configuration), DC blocker, 90cm self amalgamating sealing tape & all necessary connectors. Fly/patch lead from power injector to ADS-B receiver has an SMA-male plug to connect to receiver. For other types of ADS-B receivers with different type antenna sockets, an adapter to SMA may be required at extra cost. For example, GNS5890 requires SMA/MCX adapter . Does not include co-ax extension cable or antenna.
(For early model receivers with a BNC antenna connection, a BNC-m/BNC-m fly/patch lead can be substituted at no extra cost, on request prior to ordering.) If your receiver has any other type of antenna connector/socket, let us know, as we have a number of different types of connector adaptors we can supply to you at a very reasonable cost.
Amplifier specification: The 18dB amplifier is a fully screened remote powered device which will work in a voltage range of 11-20V DC.  Maximum output of 105dBμV at 35dB IMR.   950 - 2050Mhz.   50 Ohm. Working temperature range -20^oC to +55^oC.   Passes both DC and 22KHz.

The results of our tests shown below were taken over a period of time and averaged to give an indication of relative performances of different antenna configurations.
The site used was ideal, at an elevated location (East of Brisbane) and close to the visible ocean.
Better performance figures at other locations are unlikely to be achieved.
The magnetic base antenna (with 3dB whip) used was that supplied with the basic SBS kit, mounted on an earthed steel surface.   (
